Why
is it valued?

rating (*/4)
Time Management
Time management is important because if an employee does not arrive
on time then their work will not be given as much time as possible, this will
drop the work standard.
Team Working
Employees may not have the correct skills to complete a task, but by
working in a group the team can use their combined skills to complete the
task. Working in groups is also needed to work as part of a large company.
Written Communication Skills
Written communication is important in any job, but especially in an
IT job where a lot of information is relayed to other employees via messages,
the recipient of any message must be able to understand what the sender is
trying to say and not get the wrong idea as this could cause mistakes.
Verbal Skills
Communication is important because if employees cannot effectively
relay information to each other than employees may be left with the wrong
information and could do the task wrong.
Numeric Skills
Numeric skills are important, especially in databases as this is
often involves company records and statistics.
Technical Knowledge
Technical knowledge is required so that the employee understands any
jargon and also has the knowledge to complete the task right, otherwise the
employee could do the work wrong and this would take extra time to fix the
mistakes.
Working Procedures
Working Procedures must be followed so that work is done correctly
and mistakes are not made as this would waste time. This also involves doing
work to the correct standard.
Health & Safety
Health and safety is required because if these procedures are not
followed then employees can be harmed, not only is this morally bad that
people have been hurt but it also affects the company as it is less time to
complete work and this would slow the work rate down.
Security
Security is needed because if company documents are leaked it could
lead to loss of money or company secrets being exposed, this could lead to a
bad public image or other consequences.
Physical security is also important, employees should keep any keys,
access cards or company documents in safe places so that unauthorised people
don’t gain access to them.
Work Attitudes
Work attitudes should be positive because nothing is more unappealing
than a negative employee that has a negative outlook and poor social skills.
Creativity
Creativity is important to bring new ideas or designs to a team
project/individual work.
Planning Skills
Planning skills are important so that time and work is managed
effectively, ensuring that work is completed on time and to a sufficient
standard.
Organisational Skills
Organisational skills are needed to keep work in order otherwise it
is easy to lose track of important documents or misplace them, physically and
electronically.
Determined
Being determined is a useful attitude because if an employee gives up
on his work easily then the work will not get done, whereas someone who is
determined will power through the hard spots and get the work done on time.
Independent
Being independent is useful because often an employee will have to
undertake tasks on their own and they will need the independence and
intuition to do what they feel is best for the work.
Integrity
Integrity will help employees to get hard work done and make sure
that they get all of the work done even if it is difficult.
Tolerance
Tolerance is necessary because workplaces often have employees and
customers with a variety of characteristics and attributes e.g Race, Religion
and Personality. When working with employees or customers with a difficult
personality it is important to keep a level head and get on with the job.
Employees should not hold grudges against other employees or
customers based on their race or religion as this leads to an unhealthy
atmosphere, not to mention judging someone on their race or religion is
discrimination.
Dependable
Being dependable means that other employees can count on you to get
your share of the work done on time and to an acceptable standard, if this is
not achieved then it will make the employees work rate slow down and mean
less work is being done.
Problem Solving
Problem solving is important to overcome difficult problems in a
task, such as a programmer finding fixing a bug in their program.
Leadership
Leadership is important for teamwork as it allows the leader to give
each team member a role to sufficiently get the work done on time, otherwise
the team may just be all over the place and the work wouldn’t be done.
Confidence
Confidence is a good attitude because it means that the employee can
voice their opinions and ideas instead of shying away and possibly not saying
a crucial idea.
Self-Motivation
Self-motivation allows the employee to get on with work on their own
without the supervision or guidance of someone else, this is crucial because
it allows individuals to work without needing support.
